Does your website need a refresh?

Potential customers are likely to look for your brand or products and services online. A strong online presence is key in attracting customers, building brand loyalty, and driving revenue. However, if your website isn’t working properly or doesn’t clearly represent you, your brand, or your company, you might be losing your potential audience.

But determining if your website needs a refresh is more than just swapping out old photos for new. Take a look at this checklist of items you want to pay close attention to when it comes to your website.

Check your design elements:

  1. Imagery - are they current and relevant? Do the images on your site showcase your message? What feelings and experiences do your images evoke from site visitors? If you don’t like the answers to these questions…it’s time for a refresh. Mix up your content by incorporating images or illustrations into your messaging. Imagery can be a powerful medium to tell your company story or convey an idea.

  2. Color - When experimenting with colors, remember to stay away from anything that distracts the viewer from your message. A smart color choice complements your brand and invites the audience to learn more. Make sure your color choices are consistent and match well to your other images and graphics.

  3. Copy - this refers to the words on your website - the paragraphs, the blogs, the headlines, and titles. Do they use correct grammar? Are there misspellings? Are the blocks of copy broken up with images and graphics? Is it easy to read

  4. Links - broken links can be frustrating for a site visitor. It is important to know that if a visitor clicks a link, it does something — takes them to another page, leads them to a form, adds an item to a cart, etc. Go through your site and check these links. Do they take visitors where you want them to go? Don’t forget to check links in blog articles, too!

  5. Forms - Just like links, the forms on your website need to work. Do the forms go anywhere when completed? Who receives them - what email address do they go to and do you have a process to respond appropriately. If someone completes a form to download a checklist, for instance, does the checklist get sent automatically? It’s important to test your forms and test them regularly.

  6. Social Media - Websites typically have links to your social media platforms… once again, do these icons connect correctly and do they go to the right profiles?

  7. Contact info - Nothing is worse than getting on a company’s website only to find that the contact information is not accurate — wrong phone number, wrong address.. it’s all very frustrating to the visitor. Be sure that the information is correct!

Some of these elements are quick fixes. Some require a bit more planning and time to execute. Regardless, if you want a second set of eyes on your site, let us know! We gladly conduct website evaluations at no charge to you! We’ll test your links, your icons, your forms… we’ll read the copy for typos and grammar… we’ll even give you an evaluation of the site’s design.
